Project Description

After completion of the Master Plan, Gracelawn Cemetery asked Mekus Tanager to commence work on Phase II of the Master Plan in order to diversify burial options for the cemetery, and to allow for new traditional inventory at the close-to-capacity cemetery.

As part of the Phase II Expansion, Gracelawn wanted to add: a new entrance and perimeter fence along North Blvd; roadways and infrastructure to support this phase and future phases of development; a cremation garden featuring columbaria and walking paths for reflection; a new technology-infused committal shelter to allow for memorial services (both in person and live-streamed to the web) and remembrance; and a maintenance yard to facilitate ease of cemetery operations. All areas of the Phase II Expansion were designed with materials which complement the existing cemetery’s historic wall, built by the WPA during the Great Depression.
