Project Description

Hillside Memorial Park hired Mekus Tanager to convert a former maintenance yard into a new memorial development within an existing landmark cemetery. Occupying a prominent spot on the cemetery’s grounds, the memorial development was designed to make a statement and become the cemetery’s new flagship for the new millennium.

The complex includes a main mausoleum and gardens building housing 2,800 crypts, which was designed to respect the surrounding residential neighborhood while also complimenting two existing garden mausoleums. Also included in the memorial park is a committal shelter, a water feature, and 5,500 lawn crypts that are in tiered-sections to reflect local topography. Vehicular and pedestrian access to the site was also generated from the perimeter road system at four different locations.
