Our Lady of the Angels Garden Crypts
Mekus Tanager designed the original complex in 1994, which included 1,200 cyrpts, 200 niches, garden feature areas, chapels, administrative offices, and workrooms. The original master plan also included provisions for expansion.
The new construction includes crypts and niches which extend in a radial pattern from the center point of the garden, gradually stepping down the hillside. Ceramic mosaic art tablets adorn the end of each axis, creating a major focal point.
The new construction phase brings the total number of crypts to 3,400 and 2,900 niches. Mekus Tanager’s master plan also provides for an additional phase of crypt expansion on the east end of the complex, when additional inventory is required.
