Baker & McKenzie
Chicago, Illinois
Project Description
For a period of five years, we worked with Baker & McKenzie on the programming, planning, design and implementation of their 238,000-square foot Chicago and International Law Offices in downtown Chicago.
One of the ways the design team met the challenge of incorporating the different practice areas was to develop a design scheme that was contemporary, international and timeless in character. Through the use of minimal ornamentation and traditional materials, we were able to create a mildly conservative image that appealed to the hundred-plus attorneys and conveyed the image of a successful law firm without appearing ostentatious.
The resulting design reflects the international orientation of the firm, incorporating the energetic style of the client and the functional needs of the staff. We also assisted Baker & McKenzie with the development of new and more efficient office standards for all levels of professional and support staff. This included simplifying the layouts for each type of office or workspace and improving the furnishings to accommodate office technology and increase flexibility.
