Influence of Design: Miramar National Cemetery

on .

Mekus Tanager was part of a design team that developed the 323-acre master plan for Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, and the development provides approximately 253,000 new burial spaces.

Phase 1 of the master plan included a 45-acre land development with 26,000 burial sites. New buildings designed for the cemetery include: a public information and administrative building, a maintenance building, vehicle storage building, and two 1,200 square-foot committal shelters.

Additional features include two columbarium complexes, a POW-MIA memorial and ossuary, a scatter garden, and a flagpole plaza. The materials for this project were selected to convey strength and permanence, befitting a cemetery for our veterans.
