Project Description

Encompassing over 317 acres in Orland Park, IL, Good Shepherd Cemetery was a welcome addition to the Archdiocese of Chicago cemetery system. Mekus Tanager designed the master plan for Good Shepherd Cemeter, in addition to designing and overseeing the construction of three of the cemetery's buildings including: a Chapels and Administration building, a garden crypts complex, and a field operations center (maintenance facilities).

The chapels and administration building was designed with an administration area surround by three chapels allowing for simultaneous use.

The garden crypts complex, located near the front entrance to the cemetery, was designed to create a powerful yet majestic presence. The complex includes 3,000 crypts, niche walls, stained glass artwork, religious sculptures, and mosaic murals throughout the space.

The 13,000 square-foot field operations center was designed to house vehicle maintenance bays, storage, scheduling office, locker rooms, and an employee break room.
