Project Description

Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery is a historic, landlocked cemetery where traditional burial inventory was in short supply.  To add a variety of inventory types to the cemtery, the project area was to reclaim land from the cemetery's former spoils area.

In partnership with Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Joliet and Coldspring, who was the General Contractor on the project, Mekus Tanager assisted Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery with the design of a new garden crypt and niche complex with an outdoor committal shelter.

Phase 1 of the project added a burial inventory of 310 above-ground crypts and 312 niches, which were located both in the columns of the committal shelter, some of the walls of the crypt buildings, and also in columbarium units.  Furthermore, the development was designed in phases, allowing the cemetery to add inventory as needed in the future.
