GSA - Public Buildings Service - Workplace 20/20

Project Description

 

 

Workplace 20/20 is a Public Buildings Service’s project built to show other agencies a dynamic, cost effective, and high performance workplace for today’s and tomorrow’s governmental agencies. Located in a classic Mies van der Rohe building, the spaces shows how the GSA envisions meeting the needs of today’s collaborative workforce and the government’s environmental initiatives.

 

To promote new collaborative and interactive team-based strategies, Mekus Tanager designed the office to promote openness, transparency, and accessibility. Transparency was accomplished with lower workstation panels, interior glass walled demountable partitions and the substitution of glass for dry wall partitions.

 

The final result is a design that pays homage to the building’s architecture and also increases efficiency in the workflow and employee interaction and collaboration. The workspace is designed to meet LEED-Silver standards.

 

An interesting fact is that one of the completed floors was chosen and used by President Obama and his transition team for their Chicago offices until he officially moved to Washington DC. Also, the GSA was so pleased with the result that they submitted the space for a national GSA design award.
